A suggestion (ooh, original) « Thread Started on Feb 11, 2008, 3:39pm »
Now, I have no idea if anyone will like this suggestion, or if I'm totally out of line for suggesting it, but here goes.
Would it be possible to set up some sort of relationship system? I'm not talking like romantic relationships (though that would be part of it), just relationships between characters. I've done a lot of text-based RPGing in my day (lolol, makes it sound like I'm super old!) and most of the ones that were set up like this had some sort of relationship system, because these type of RPGs generally run on relationships between characters, I find.
Basically, the way it works is that in everyone's profile they have an extra section for relationships. There are usually different levels of relationship, ranging everywhere from hated enemies to family or boyfriends/girlfriends. Sometimes the levels are denoted with colored hearts, sometimes with number of hearts. Generally the levels are referred to as "heart rates." Usually people also split it into two sections, with one for friends/family and one for romantic interests (perhaps in this one we could also have one for teachers/students? I don't know). People edit the list as they gain relationships, whether they be good or bad. It's a good way of keeping track of who your character's friends are. It's also all IC so it doesn't cause any drama (at least as far as I've seen!) because everyone knows that just because your character dislikes another character it doesn't mean that you dislike the person playing that character.
There's also usually some kind of rule in place where characters can't move up more than a heart rate a day - so, for example, someone couldn't move up from three hearts to seven after a chance encounter in the halls or something.
Oh dear. I'm not sure I've explained this very well. It's kind of a hard concept to explain. If anyone's interested and would like to see a link to a place where they use this I can provide it because it might explain it better. (It wouldn't be advertising, I swear! I'd only link directly to the page where they explain it.)

Oh, yeah, I remember that from Reflections. You can go ahead and post your link if you care to (I'm not exactly being too strict right yet), but I'm pretty sure I know what you mean.
There's no such thing as an out of line suggestion. (Unless you suggest I go do the anatomically impossible or something. )
Unfortunately, they took down the link explaining it because they're redoing the board, but I think that what's in the link explains it pretty well, anyway. Obviously, it's just an example and could be tailored pretty easily to fit this RPG.
